What does well-being mean?

Many see mental and physical health as separate concepts. However, well-being encompasses BOTH. Most medical and psychological professions believe that physical health and mental well-being are inextricably related. Good physical health boosts mental wellness, and feeling happy & fulfilled can improve our physical health.

How does stress affect the brain and body?

During stressful times, we can experience many emotions and even physical impacts - body aches, appetite changes, difficulty sleeping. Increases in stress and anxiety can also change our brain's chemistry. Over time, these reactions raise cholesterol levels, disturb intestinal activities, and depress the immune system.

Why is happiness important? Is it really a choice?

Research shows that genetics account for about half of the differences we see in an individual’s happiness level, with only 10% of the differences accounted for by life circumstances. That means we can directly impact about 40% of our happiness level. How? When we focus on positive experiences we begin to overcome our bias for negativity.

Levelhead for Real Life has 100+ quick and practical lessons to build well-being, cope with stress, and boost your happiness!

Is self-care selfish?

Self-care is more than spending a day at the spa or indulging in our favorite treat. It’s a recognition that having a healthy lifestyle is essential to not just our well-being, but those around us. When we care for ourselves, we are more productive, happy, and the kind of person that others want to be around. Self-care allows us to be there for others and serve as role models for living a full and happy life.

How does gratitude rewire your brain?

Decades of research have shown that focusing on positive aspects of our life can significantly improve our well-being. In fact, the actual events in our lives rarely influence our well-being as much as our interpretation of these events. Through gratitude, you begin to acknowledge, train, and rewire your brain to recognize these positive things - a powerful antidote to our brain’s bias for negativity.

How do relationships affect happiness?

Recent research shows that relationships are critically important to our well-being and happiness. Exceptional relationships foster optimism and cheerfulness. Of course, relationships can also cause us a great deal of anxiety and sadness, too. Sometimes we find ourselves saying something that we deeply regret later. The good news? We can learn to avoid these pitfalls.

Taking 3-5 minutes for a Levelhead for Real Life exercise helps you become more aware and decide how you want to respond.
