SOME GREAT IDEAS (for any book you’re discussing):
Add new questions like….
What were the main characters relationships?
Did the main character embody kindness? On what level?
Does the main character live in unprecedented times? How does he/she cope?
Does the character have negatives biases, and if so, is he/she aware of that? How can you relate?
More ideas for robust discussion in these areas can be found in: “Thriving in a Global Pandemic and Beyond”.
5. Does the character change his/her behavior over the course of the book? Do you believe this is possible?
6. What kind of relationships does the main character have, and how do they affect their habits?
7. How does the character see the future? How do we see the future? Are there differences/similarities?
8. Does the main character personally take time for themselves to reflect? Did it help them?
Consider:
When and where was the book written? Is there an opportunity to theme the food/snacks after that?
Are there any special drinks mentioned in the book? Invite members to prepare them before the discussion starts.
If each of us were a character, what food would be our favorite? Have each person bring it to the next get-together!
Allow extra time to prepare food together. It’ll make you step into the character’s shoes.
Consider:
We have gone through something quite unique over the last year. Stress is at an all-time high and people feel isolated.
Talking about our experiences and helping others address what they are feeling is at the core of any good book club.
Current topics can help you take your support for each other to a new level! And, isn’t that what book clubs are really all about?
